Suburb #32 Lyons

Next on our recent Southside adventure was the suburb of Lyons. Somewhere to be honest I knew nothing about until that morning when the internet god told me there was a new cafe there that I should check out.

Lyons - part of Woden land - is named after Joseph Lyons our tenth Australian Prime Minister, who was PM during the 30s. He was also the Premier of Tasmania during the 20s - and, in fact, the only person in Australian history to have been PM, a Premier and a leader of the opposition in both the Federal and State Parliament. Mr Lyons also gets plus points for having Aloysius as his middle name and apparently being portrayed in the media as a sleepy koala.

For once it was pretty easy to ascertain what the streets here are named after - all places in Tassie!

Lyons is quite a small pleasant suburb - though one with not a lot of character in terms of the houses/natural features in the area - hence this post will be quite short and sweet.

The local shops do, however, have a lot of potential particularly with the addition of the new Stand By Me where we had a fabulous afternoon breakfast, and the uber cute sculpture out the front.

There are also still some great views back towards the Telstra tower from the edge of the suburb...

But I was quite surprised that there was a full electricity sub-station here given how close it is to the centre of Woden...

What really intrigued me though is what happens in this dead end street on Mondays only. Odd.
