Suburb #103 Bruce

I really need to stop procrastinating...only 11 suburbs to go after this one! Suburb #103 was Bruce in Belconnen!

Bruce is named after Stanley Melbourne Bruce, Australia's 8th prime minister. He was also the first chancellor of ANU and the first Australian to sit in the House of Lords. He promoted significant British migration to Australia as part of his 'Men, Money and Markets' scheme in the 1920s.

The streets here are named after people and places associated with tertiary education.

Bruce is just a hop, skip and a jump from my new place...under this roadway...

As soon as I got to the other side, I felt like I was in a whole different world...and that I had misjudged this suburb with its terribly unromantic name.

Old Bruce is filled with beautiful flowers and small pathways...

The houses seem to blend into their Australian surroundings...

And new friends pop up around every turn :p

It is far from the clinical, rather cold, suburb that I expected from its 'front gates'.

Sure the suburb has its share of light brick mega mansions...

But it has so much more... as I was to realise when taking a walk around the back of the suburb...

And up to the top of Gossan Hill Nature Reserve...

The views were incredible...as was the wildlife :)

Walking to the other side of Old Bruce...

Led me to stand here....on the other side of the bridge that I had visited more than 100 suburbs ago...it was a strange feeling. So much has changed since then.

But despite a very long walk, I had still only scratched the surface of what is 'Bruce' so it was time to grab the car and keep going!

Afterall, within this suburb is two hospitals...one old...

And one new...

The Canberra Institute of Technology...

The Australian Institute of Sport...

 Canberra University...

And then if thats not enough to exhaust you, there is new Bruce....it was like walking around the corner and straight into Gungahlin...

Even the light posts are the same!

The 'modern' architecture...

The 'estates'...

The planned spaces for wildlife :)

And as I made friends with some ducks, an epic day out in Bruce finally came to an end...though I believe this is just the start of many local adventures here for me. So glad this suburb is on my doorstep :)
