Suburb #79 Melba

Spring has definitely sprung in Canberra so its definitely suburb season. Next stop was suburb no. 79 Melba in Belco.

Melba is of course named after the one and only Dame Nellie Melba, Australia's first internationally recognised Australian opera soprano. Among many other things she is remembered for her amazing number of farewell performances - hence the phrase 'more farewells than Dame Nellie Melba'.

The streets are rather logically named after composers, singers and other musically notable Australians.

Melba probably wins the award for prettiest street sign but there were so many more spring flowers to come...

I had a lovely time wandering around the park at the south of the suburb alongside Ginnindera creek on such a glorious Canberra spring day..

Then it was off to explore the local shops - where there is an Indian and a Chinese restaurant, and a lovely statue dedicated to miss Melba herself.

Some nearby street art also caught my attention....

As did some local houses...

But what really surprised me was the view back towards Belco from the top of the hill...

Thank you Melba. It was a pleasure :)

  1. You were very close Cathy -we're just over in Flynn! I have been to the Chinese a couple times a long time ago but have never been to the Indian. I get my hair done there and the butcher is good! Nelly Hall on the other side of the car park was one of our happy play groups!
